Gas springs (also known as gas struts) can solve your requirements for controlled movement in applications that require opening, closing, tilting and damping. A common application for gas springs is found in the automotive industry for the hatchback. The gas spring functions in the compressed position. By compressing the rod into the tube, the nitrogen gas within the tube is compressed. As the space within the tube is reduced, the gas pressure rises, which leads to the storing of energy. Once released, the gas spring then assists with the movement of an object, such as lifting the hatchback door.
